Story On Memory And Time English Literature Essay
Story On Memory And Time English Literature Essay It is one sunshine afternoon like the other day, my uncle complains to me about how to communicate with his son again. He tells me that he is so busy with his business that his son has always been lived with his grandparent abroad since his son was very young. I feel even more confused when he says that he is not used to spend the time with his son, as he does not know what to say to his son though he is a father. May be you can chat with your son about some interests that your son likes to do very much, such as football, basketball and so on. I tell him. And my memory begins to draft back to the time when I was very young. My parents always believe it is very important for them to spend the time with me no matter how busy they are. Of all the things in the world, time is the most valuable thing that parents can spend on a child. My parents always said that when I was young. They knew what my hobbies are clearly and they are so kind that always tried their best to cultivate my strong points. And it is mainly due to this reason that I am the best football player in my campus. I could not imagine what my course of life would be under the condition that my parents were the same as my uncle, knowing nothing about his child. Well, it is a good idea at the first glance, but I am not familiar with my sons hobbies. May be money can solve everything. You know, I am so successful a manager, hence, I can let my son know how successful his father is by the way of spending money. My uncle answers with confidence, like many parents nowadays, who always believe that it is more useful if they put money onto their children than time. At that moment, my heart is filled with compassion for his son. It is no surprise that his son has no strong points in my school and always spends the time by himself. Being so lonely and so introverted, he even does not know how to make friends with other classmates, never to say social intercourse. I feel am so fortunate than his son, as I have a harmony family, the family of which is vey united and compatible. Living in this family, I learn how to care other people, how to communicate with other people and how to show your friendliness to other people, the characteristics of which I cherish most in my life career. I am convinced that these are the best gifts my parent has given to me. After the conversation with my uncle, looking at the children playing football in the grass lawn not far away, the memories about the time I spend with my parent emerge in my mind. I fall into the precious and memorable recollections. It is no exaggeration to say that I could not have been crazy about playing the football without my fathers cultivation day by day. I remember that my father always comes to the court in my school to watch my football competition. In my memory, when I fail, he always says to me that it is not important of the results, but the process. I have many times of being frustrated; thinking may be I am not the proper person to play football though I love it. It is also my father, a patient and nice father, who gives me encouragements and cheer me up. There is one time that I will have my football competition in the next few days. Unfortunately, my father is too busy with his companies to come. So vital the competition is, I feel nervous and can not focus all my energy on the game, the game of which that I am crazy about. Surprisingly, when the competition begins, I find my father comes to watch my play in one corner of the court, smiling toward me. During that time, full of confidence and thankfulness fills my heart, and I get the golden medal at last. But that competition not merely rewards me that model, it also let me know how miraculous the fathers love to his son is, and how important it is to have the conscious of being able to conquer the impossible. Time will zip by, but memory will be left in your inner heart, especially the precious memories. Those memories about my childhood give me boundless knowledge. Of all the educations in the world, the parents education is significantly important. It is until I grow up that I gradually appreciate my parents influence on me during the period of my childhood. Had it not been for my parents influences, I could not have achieved so many gains not only relating to knowledge but also about social intercourse. It is the memory of my childhood that I cherish most and often hold the opinion that it is the best time in my life. And I am often associated to that period from the things happened in daily life and from what I hear and see when I grow up. Besides that, had it not been for that memory, it would be difficult for me to become an excellent football player in my school. In recent days, I write an article mainly about what is a life, and this title is derived from my childhood, from my father. Whats a life, Dad? Being an innocent child, I was curious about everything in daily life and I always asked my father what the life was when I was a little boy. Life is each day that you take and make most of that. My father always told me like that. Though I could not understand that deep meaning of life, I conceive something relating to life and living. I remember there are many memories about taking each day in my childhood. Fly kites in the field with my father; watch meaningful and moved movies relating to life, to common people with my father; enjoy the natural beauty with my parent when we go out to have a camping; play football with my father and other kids, learning what important in football and in life is the process, not the results. I remember the fondness time my father takes me to go to camp, and that memory always burns brightly in my heart. I l earn a lot from that, especially about how beautiful it is of nature and how meaningful the life is under the condition you put all your heart into it. I learn that simple truth earlier than other children. And these memories always company me when I feel depressed or delighted. Whenever I feel not sure about the life road ahead or become confused about the life and frustrated by trifle things in daily life, I always think about the cheerful memories in my mind, and then I know what the life is and how should I continue my road, how to live happily and meaningfully. It is no exaggeration to say that it is my childhood memory that gives me thoughts about how to write that article. Hence, I write this article, to pursue the significant meaning of life by my past time beautiful memories from my parent. It is my father who teaches me how to pursue life, and gives me inspiration of writing. The memories of spending wonderful time with family in my childhood are so vivid in my memory that I could not keep thinking about them when I am alone. Memory can be compared to flowers, give fragrance to people when they want it; memory can be compared to a mirror, from which you will know what you looks like and how can you make yourself look better and better; memory can be compared to a creation sources, give you inspirations and vision. And in my mind, memory is a reflection and manifestation of my parents love to his child, to me. It is this memory that companies me day and night, making me know how to achieve my dreams and let me know clearly about what is worth my pursuing in my life. Without this memory, I could not write that beautiful essay or being an excellent player in my school. Having this cherishing memory, I will do as my father did when I have my own child in the future; telling him what life is, by using the memories of my childhood. I will surely cultivate his strong points and interests, letting him have the precious memory like mine. A best memory of childhood is the best gift from parents, more valuable and expensive than money or jewelries. Without memory, writers could not write beautiful essays; without memory, children could not have so many fancies; without memory, I could not become good at playing football. Reflective Statement It is universally acknowledged that parents education has significant meaning and the best gift given to children is the time that parents put into, not money, jewelry or other things. Besides that, I have uncountable beautiful memories during childhood from my parent, who teaches me a lot not only about how to be a good person but also about how to explore the meaning of life and how to enjoy life. Therefore, this article is created. It is an article that can give people not only deep thoughts about cherished memories that belonged to their own but also let them know more about the parents influence on children. My memories of my parents cultivating me and playing with me when I was a child always encourage me to overcome difficulties and to be confidence in my daily life. Thanks to those precious memories, I can smile at life on matter it is sunshine or a winding day. And this is another reason which gives me inspiration of creating this work. This work can be used to render people tremendous benefits of how to be imaginable and fancy from their memories as well. It is the memories of wonderful time spending with parents during my childhood time that give me inspiration of creating this work. There are some problems emerged during writing process. For example, it seems to be difficult to describe the unforgettable time of childhood in detail. For the purpose of showing it vividly, I used my imagination and inspiration as well as memory, the memory of which is still burning vividly in my heart. Another problem is that how to arrange the structure of the work, with the purpose of achieving the better results. To achieve better effects, I used a conversation at first paragraph, the conversation of which is to reflect the common problems existed among many parents, who always hold the opinion that money can solve everything, including educating their children. The conversation with my uncle give rises to my own memory of childhood with parent as well. 2) Essay Introduction It is almost impossible to write of the childrens memories of their childhood without mentioning memories of their parents. As is known to all, parents education wield a significant influence in developing childrens practical abilities, cultivating childrens strong points and helping children accomplish educational goals. It is the memories of education and influences from parents that shape childrens life road to a great extent. This essay will firstly discuss the information about techniques and working methods that have been used in the creation of that work. Following this, it will give observations about the creative thinking and writing process of that work. Finally, it will describe the creation and construction of this work. Techniques and working methods being used In the contemporary world, perhaps most of the parents have the illusion that money can render them tremendous help of teaching their children, especially for the busy businessmen. Hence, at the first paragraph, it is a conversation with an uncle. Actually, uncle is a symbol of the parents who knows little on how to educating children, how to play with them and so forth. By comparison, in the first paragraph it also gives my own memories of my childhood and my parents, the purpose of which is to emphasize the theme that time is the best gift parents can give to their children. Another working methods should be mentioned is that in this work, it describes many vivid memories of childhood in detail. It is widely acknowledged by people that elaborate descriptions can better demonstrate the theme. Therefore, memories such as father went to see my football competition no matter how busy he was and how parents cultivated my interests are described vividly. Besides that, these beautiful memories can make people fall into the memories of their own as well. Hence, it can better attract the eyes of readers and achieve their sympathy Last but not least, in that work, it describes myself creating of an article what is life, which is said to be originated from my own memories of parent. For the purpose of putting the work to a meaningful level, I added that description, hoping it can receive the achievements of not only letting readers know how significant it is of parents education but also letting them know the vital role of memory in peoples daily writing and thoughts as it originates from my memory of parent. Good memories can accompany people on their entire life road and give them ray of light whenever they are in the darkness, though the life time zips by quickly. It is the memory of wonderful time which I spent with family that gives me that inspiration and imagination. Observations about the creative thinking and writing process The creative thinking and writing process is mainly reflected in the description of one article that I wrote in that work. I give the name what is life to it, as in my eyes, my parents education of me let me know how to live happily, how to pursue dreams on my life road and what is the meaning of living. It is the best gift and most cherished memory from my parent. Without their cultivation, I could not understand that life is to put your energy into it and enjoy it. From this sense, the writing of this section best exemplifies the creating thinking of mine, as it is the combination of my own memories and my own imaginations as well as my own thoughts about life from my eyesight. Creation and construction of this work In this work, conversation and description are both used, for the purpose of giving people vivid and exactly feeling and to achieve the result of emphasizing the theme of this work. Besides that, memories of my own are mainly used as all these descriptions originated from my own memories of my childhood. It is the basic source of creating this work. In order to emphasize the theory that though time zips by quickly, memories will company people and influence people almost all their lives, a description of imagination was used at the end of that work. That is, when I become a father, I will cultivate my own child like my father did, letting him know the meaning of life and spend as much time as possible with him, which is the best gift that parents can give but always neglect. There are many depictions about the memory itself in this work. It is mainly due to the reason that it is memory that gives me inspiration and imagination. In other words, I could not create this work without the basis of cherished memory. It is that memory which gradually let me understand how luck I am, as I have a harmony family which makes me always smile at life and have my own thoughts when I grow up. Hence, I described memories in details. And this is the mainly reason that I can create this work. When it comes to the reason why I constructed this work, for one part, it is due to the precious memories of my own and my own inspirations originated from those memories. For the other part, it is widely seen that in the contemporary world, most parents do not know how to communicate with their children, making their children lonely and introverted. Hence, it is so meaningful of that work in my mind that I create it. Conclusion In conclusion, good memories can render people tremendous benefits. It is memories of my childhood experience that gives me inspiration to create this work. Besides that, it goes without saying that parents should spend much more high quality time with children, giving them much beautiful memories, which can influence their characters and help them to be more and more confident in the future. And this is the theme of my work as well.

Benefits and Drawbacks of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI)
Benefits and Drawbacks of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is the single most important mechanism for the globalization of the international economy. FDI is the investment of real assets in a foreign country, it is acquiring assets such as land and equipment in another host country, but operating the facility from the home country. FDI is viewed by many as necessary to stimulate the economies of both developed and underdeveloped countries. The global economy experienced a decrease in foreign investment flows. Developing countries have been hit the hardest by the decline in FDI as foreign investment is being redirected to more developed countries. It is expected that FDI will continue to be the most significant tool for globalization. It is widely accepted that FDI inflows provide economic benefits such as increased competition, technological spillovers and innovations, and increased employment. The impact of foreign investment extends far beyond economic growth. FDI can be a catalyst for change to society as a whole, therefore one must think in terms of economic, political, social, technological, cultural, and environmental factors and examine all the effects of FDI in order to interpret the true long-term impact. Foreign investment and globalization continues to increase, developing countries desperately seeking to attract foreign investment can have undesirable outcomes. FDI can have numerous negative effects, such as job loss, human rights abuses, political unrest, financial volatility, environmental degradation, and increased cultural tensions. The results of FDI on the global economy are complex and unpredictable, yet they can vary from country to country. This is due in part to the practices that are in place prior to receiving FDI inflows, such as deep-rooted social customs, political practices, laws and regulations. In more developed countries foreign direct investment resulted in rapid economic growth and social development and in unstable economies, underdeveloped countries, the results can be quite different. Types of Foreign Direct Investment According to Ali Guo (2005) states the main types of FDI in world are Equity Joint Ventures, Contractual Joint Ventures and the establishment of Wholly Foreign Owned Enterprises. Contractual joint ventures were initially the most important in the world. Equity joint ventures and wholly foreign owned enterprises became predominant and recent years have seen a proliferation of wholly foreign owned enterprises. Equity joint ventures have been a popular entry mode for two reasons. Ali Guo (2005) stated that most governments believes that equity joint ventures best serve the objective of foreign capital, technology, and management experiences. Secondly, foreign investors hope through engaging in joint ventures to get local partners assistance in the domestic markets. Foreign investors have chosen wholly foreign owned enterprises as the preferred entry mode in recent years so as to avoid problems associated with equity joint ventures. Motives for foreign direct investment Kokko (2006) identifies Foreign Direct Investment literature three as the most common investment motivations: resource-seeking, market-seeking and efficiency-seeking. Kokko (2006) suggests that although most MNCs engage in FDI that combines the characteristics of each of these categories, the gravity of each motive on the formulation of the MNCs strategy may also change, as a firm becomes an established and experienced foreign investor. The availability of natural resources, cheap unskilled or semi-skilled labor, creative assets and physical infrastructure promotes resource-seeking activities. According to Kokko (2006) the most important host country determinant of FDI has been the availability of natural resources, e.g. minerals, raw materials and agricultural products. Labor-seeking investment is usually undertaken by manufacturing and service MNEs from countries with high real labor costs, which set up or acquire subsidiaries in countries with lower real labor costs to supply labo r intensive intermediate or final products. To attract such production, host countries have set up free trade or exportprocessing zones (Kokko 2006). Market-seeking investment is attracted by factors like the host countrys market size, per capita income and market growth. For firms, new markets provide a chance to stay competitive and grow within the industry as well as achieve scale and scope economies. Apart from market size and trade restrictions, MNCs might be prompted to engage in market-seeking investment, when their main suppliers or customers have set up foreign producing facilities and in order to retain their business they need to follow them overseas Market-seeking also includes the search for strategic assets that enable the MNC to sustain and advance its international competitive advantages (Kokko 2006). The motivation of efficiency-seeking FDI is to rationalize the structure of established resource based or market-seeking investment in such a way that the investing com pany can gain from the common governance of geographically dispersed activities. The intention of the efficiency-seeking MNC is to take advantage of different factor endowments, cultures, institutional arrangements, economic systems and policies, and market structures by concentrating production in a limited number of locations to supply multiple markets (Kokko 2006). Ownership, location, and internalization are the three potential sources of advantage that may underlie a firms decision to become a MNC. A key feature of this approach is that it focuses on the incentives facing individual firms. Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is determined by three sets of advantages which direct investment should have over the other institutional mechanisms available for a firm in satisfying the needs of its customers at home and abroad. The first of the advantages is the ownership specific one which includes the advantage that the firm has over its rivals in terms of its brand name, patent or knowledge of technology and marketing. This allows firms to compete with the other firms in the markets it serves regardless of the disadvantages of being foreign. The second is the internationalisation advantage, that is why a bundled FDI approach is preferred to unbundled product licensing, capital lending or technical assistance (Wheeler and Mody, 1992). The location-specific advantages relate to the importance for the firm to operate and invest in the host country and are those advantages that make the chosen foreign country a more attractive site for FDI than the others. For instance firms may invest in production facilities in foreign markets because transportation costs are too high to serve these markets through exports. This could either be directly related to the actual nature of the good, either being a high bulk item or a service that needs to be provided on site, or due to policy factors such as tariff rates, import restrictions, or issues of market access that makes physical investment advantageous over serving the market through exports. Location advantage also embodies other characteristic (economic, institutional and political) such as large domestic markets, availability of natural resources, an educated labor force, low labor cost, good institutions (the clarity of countrys law, efficiency of bureaucracy and the absen ce of corruption), political stability, corporate and other tax rates among others. Negative effects of foreign investment on the economies of the Host: Al Saffar (2010) states the criticisms directed against the common practices of foreign firms invested in host countries is that its main focus in the recruitment of its investments in industries quarrying for the purpose of re-use in the country of origin of the capital without making any effort to engage in manufacturing activity and development commensurate with the goals and aspirations of these countries, which do growth and development. This type of investment is characterized by extension of the parent organization that harms the host country and adds nothing. Al Saffar (2010) states some foreign-owned supplier to the supply of technology investment in the form of packages, the staff is unable to host countries for investment, dismantled and identified vocabulary to adapt and acquire scientific and technological expertise required for the manufacture of its terms, commensurate with the circumstances and their scientific and economic and social development. That this is clearly going to affect negatively on the possibility of acquiring technical staff Local technological skills and diverse as these companies by another would not be attributable to their employees from the landlords, the National, but routine job sites that do not require sophisticated technical expertise. It thus does not allow creating a new class of professionals or the business of skilled scientific and technological and organizational and administrative, marketing and shielded from the possibility of opening prospects for new national projects and sophisticated and thus the host country has to invest in a spiral of underdevelopment. Al Saffar (2010) argues that rejecting the foreign investor is often the transfer of advanced technology in his possession the grounds that the host country is unable to digest and absorb these advanced Technology and modern. So he would prefer to import from abroad with the full line of production and assembly and thus ignore the important one the main objectives of the host countries is that companies he training of technical staffing group to have and given an opportunity to digest and absorb these technology and benefit from the adaptation and manufacture of the spectrum and its uses in locations other economic, commensurate with their economic circumstances. According to Al Saffar (2010) often foreign companies to import production inputs from abroad, such as materials preliminary and intermediate products as well as the import of spare parts for maintenance the project when you need after the run from their home countries is usually compared to less dependence on local inputs, leading to serious injury to the interests of the host country to the economic and trade deficits, including impair its ability to take advantage of natural resources and increase savings, which is desperately needed. We must give foreign investors a degree of administrative control by virtue of its contribution to the top money on investment projects, will limit or impair the effectiveness of policies sometimes economic development in the host country and restricts the varying degrees of independence of decision-makers local address balance of payments or to take any action, a suitable economic the impact and effectiveness of positive economic activities. (Al Saf far 2010) The foreign investment of foreign companies, making the host country loses some capacity to make some economic and political decisions on the management of its affairs which increases the economic dependency of these countries to developed countries. Besides, these foreign companies is strong negotiating and bargaining power on the selection and sitting investment and size and type of production through a selective approach in the selection of sites investments, creating a sort of incompatibility between the objectives and interests of these foreign companies Invested with what is planned in the path of economic and social development or the desired prepared for those countries. (Al Saffar 2010). The foreign invested companies operating in the area of services, media nd cultural services are often negatively affect the social systems and cultural and traditional values in the host countries .. As they are able to deploy Culture Western and especially American by selling programs on culture and magazines and music and films and books at low prices exceeding the cost price only slightly so as not to be able to become local companies to compete with these low prices. Accordingly, these companies impose its values and culture and traditions of other societies and lead to a breach of and disorder and social systems, social values and traditions rooted and established who was raised by these communities generations long. (Al Saffar 2010) According to Al Saffar (2010) depriving the host country for foreign investment from income tax imposed on capital funds or foreign companies on profits transferred abroad or at imports from foreign inputs as imposed by the Convention as well as imposed by the WTO members from the requirement of national treatment when the imposition of laws and taxes and fees on investment activity as is the case with the local foreign It shall be a great loss for the developing countries that depends to a large extent in the financing of development on the tax revenue. Al Saffar (2010) states a key part of foreign investment consists of the profits realized locally and from here highlight the problem for local decision makers As for allowing foreign companies to transfer most of their profits to their mother countries, which means allowing them absorb the riches that have been newly generated by the activity within the host country, or a requirement that these companies this re-invest profits locally. This really means to allow it to expand and increase the control of the national economy and thereby expanding its market dominance in local raise the rates of prices of goods and services, leading eventually to increase their profits back Other. According to Al Saffar (2010) Giving a lot of freedom for foreign companies to engage in unchecked activity will enhance their ability to evade compliance with laws and regulations issued by the Government of the country, the host and the virtue of its invoking a variety of pretexts, which requires follow-up its affairs professionally and prevent it from Overcome any form of abuse. Al Saffar (2010) states Some economists believe that foreign investment leads to the creation of dependency and development underdevelopment are to be based primarily on the shameless exploitation of cheap labor and exploitation of natural resources of the host country, thus leading to a loss of economic independence and political and greater dependency. VARIABLES DETERMINING FDI INFLOWS Gross Capital Formation, in a transition economy, improvements in the investment climate help to attract higher FDI inflows. It translates into higher Gross capital formation which in turn leads to greater economic growth. Sridharan Perumal et al (2010) find little evidence of FDI having an impact on capital formation in developed countries and observe that the most important aspect of FDI in the selected sample of countries is related to ownership change. The relationship between FDI and Capital Formation is not simple (Sridharan Perumal et al 2010). In the case of certain privatization, it may not lead to increase at all or even result in reduction. Thus, the unclear relation between FDI and capital formation may also hold in a transition economy. However, a positive or negative and significant relationship between FDI and Capital Formation is expected. (Sridharan Perumal et al 2010). Currency valuation The strength of a currency (Exchange rate) is used as proxy for level of inflation and the purchasing power of the investing firm. Devaluation of a currency would result in reduced exchange rate risk. As a currency depreciates, the purchasing power of the investors in foreign currency terms is enhanced, thus we expect a positive and significant relationship between the currency value and FDI inflows. The currency value can be proxied by the Real Exchange Rate, Real Effective Exchange Rate (REER) and Nominal Effective Exchange Rate (NEER). (Sridharan Perumal et al 2010). Trade openness, Trade openness is considered to be a key determinant of FDI as represented in the previous literature; much of FDI is export oriented and may also require the import of complementary, intermediate and capital goods. In either case, volume of trade is enhanced and thus trade openness is generally expected to be a positive and significant determinant of FDI. (Sridharan Perumal et al 2010). Infrastructure facilities, The well established and quality infrastructure is an important determinant of FDI flows. On the other hand, a country which has opportunity to attract FDI flows will stimulate a country to equip with good Infrastructure facilities. Therefore, we expect positively significant relationship between FDI and Infrastructure. (Sridharan Perumal et al 2010). Labour cost, Higher labour cost would result in higher cost of production and is expected to limit the FDI inflows; therefore, we expect the negative and significant relationship between labour cost and FDI. (Sridharan Perumal et al 2010). Economic stability and growth prospects, A country which has a stable macroeconomic condition with high and sustained growth rates will receive more FDI inflows than a more volatile economy. The proxies measuring growth rate are: GDP growth rates, Industrial production index, Interest rates and Inflation rates. (Sridharan Perumal et al 2010). Market size, Larger market size should receive more inflows than that of smaller countries having lesser market size. Market size is generally measured by Gross Domestic Product (GDP), GDP per capita income and size of the middle class population. (Sridharan Perumal et al 2010). Currency valuation, The strength of a currency is used as proxy for level of inflation and the purchasing power of the investing firm. Devaluation of a currency would result in reduced exchange rate risk. As a currency depreciates, the purchasing power of the investors in foreign currency terms is enhanced, thus we expect a positive and significant relationship between the currency value and FDI inflows. The currency value can be proxy by the Real Exchange Rate, Real Effective Exchange Rate (REER) and Nominal Effective Exchange Rate (NEER). (Sridharan Perumal et al 2010). Gross Capital Formation, In a transition economy, improvements in the investment climate help to attract higher FDI inflows. Though, a positive or negative and significant relationship between FDI and Capital Formation is expected. (Sridharan Perumal et al 2010).

Vitamins Essay -- Health Nutrition Papers
Vitamins What Are Vitamins? Vitamins are a group of organic food substances or nutrients found only in living things, plants and animals. They are needed to maintain normal body functions. The body cannot synthesize its own vitamins so we must get our vitamins from the foods we eat, or from dietary supplements. Vitamins are essential for metabolism, growth, and physical well-being. Why Do We Need Vitamins? To put it plainly, if we did not consume adequate amounts of vitamins our bodies would not be able to function properly. Vitamins are essential to so many processes within the body that it would be very difficult for me to tell you all of the things vitamins are needed for. The fundamentals of cells depend greatly upon vitamins. Vitamins are responsible for keeping cells strong, binding tissues, fighting infections, etc. Without vitamins our cells would not function properly and thus our organs would suffer and eventually we would no longer be able to survive. Vitamins help regulate metabolism, help convert fat and carbohydrates into energy, and assist in forming bone and tissue. Vitamin A works in our immunological systems strengthening membranes thus fighting infections, it works in our eyes aiding vision, it helps our ears by treating otosclerosis, it helps jawbone and tooth formation, healthy mouth membranes and gums, keeps our skin clear and keeps our reproductive systems healthy including fertility and sperm production. The vitamin B complex is probably one of the most essential groups of vitamins to our health. There are twelve B vitamins: B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12, biotin, pantothenic acid, choline, folic acid, inositol, and PABA. Europe: The Land Of Self-Discovery Essay -- Personal Narrative Travel
Europe: The Land Of Self-Discovery Every person has, in the course of his or her life, experienced some event that can be identified as life changing. This event can be an emotional enlightenment or a physical change that alters oneââ¬â¢s mindset. Such a clarifying incident can happen at any time. However, I believe that such an event might not occur during the first eighteen years of a personââ¬â¢s life. Lucky for me, I have had an experience that I believe changed my outlook on life. The summer before my freshman year in college I went on a seven-week backpacking trip throughout the European continent. I visited ten different countries during the course of my trip, and each country, changed me in a certain way. Some countries made more of an impact than others, but each had enough significance so as to make a noticeable change. In this essay I will outline what I experienced in each country and what that country did to change my outlook on life, and I will explain to the reader why I belie ve that this trip would have a similar impact on each and every one of them. The first country that I visited was Great Britain. My two friends and I stayed in London, which is the largest city in Great Britain. When I first got to Great Britain I did not see much of a difference between it and the United States. Everyone there spoke the same language as me, and it seemed as if the culture was influenced heavily by the United States. However, first impressions can be deceiving because I would come to learn that Great Britain had a great deal to offer. My little group set out to learn everything about London. We visited local landmarks and museums. All in all, I think that London had the aura of a larg... ...eled to Madrid and Seville. Seville has the third largest church in Europe, and this church was built on the remnants of a mosque after the Christians had burned it down. I thought everything in these two cities was amazing. I would say that Spain introduced me to a whole to concept of life; the idea that one should party till four in the morning and just nap the next day. All in all, I think that Europe changed my outlook on life. I used to think that I would want to live in a huge city, but after being in huge cities and comparing them with smaller cities that I know I no know that I want to live in a small town. I would also love to live abroad for a period of time in my life. I think that everyone should go on a trip covering a foreign land. It is a way to realize what is important to you in life, and will always be a memorable experience.

Semiotics and Instructional Technology Essay -- Signs Writing Symbols
Semiotics and Instructional Technology Abstract The purpose of my paper is to define and discuss semiotics and relate it to instructional technology. Discussing Semiotics Huyghe says that if you are a semiologist, then you study systems of signs (Huyghe, 1993, p.1). This area of discussion can cover a broad range of topics from hieroglyphic writing to "Masks and the semiotics of identity." "In semiotic terms, an icon is a variety of sign that bears a resemblance to its object; a diagram, for example, is an icon of that which the diagram represents (Pollock, 1995, p. 1). In Bourland-Davisââ¬â¢ article, she draws from Johnson and Hackman to discuss semiotics as a form of symbolic communication (Bourland-Davis, 1998, p. 2). In Bourland-Davisââ¬â¢ article (Bourland-Davis, p. 2), Johnson and Hackman state that ââ¬Ëhuman (symbolic) communication â⬠¦ generates new and relevant combinations of associations of existing elements (materials, words, ideas, facts, sounds, movements, colors, lines, mathematical notations, procedures, etc.) through lateral (divergent) thinkingââ¬â¢ (as cited in Johnson and Hackman, 1995, p.15). Sometimes the most effective way to represent an abstract problem is by using symbols, as students learn to do in high-school algebra (Matlin, 1998, p. 347). Often by comparing an idea to an object that can be symbolically related somehow, the level of understanding is increased, and then that object can later be used as a trigger mechanism for recalling the specifics of that concept (Matlin, 1998, p. 351). "â⬠¦a visual image can let us escape from the boundaries of traditional representations. At the same time, however, the visual image is somewhat concrete; it serves as a symbol for a theory that has not yet bee... ...of identity. A memorable experience in my life Essay
I have rarely thought about the so-called memorable experiences in life. Since there are a lot of things that need to be done now and also in the future, to me, it is quite hard to write about this topic and it took me a lot of time recalling what have happened in my life, what the memorable experiences were and what the most memorable one was. Finally, I realized that a memorable experience is not only a significant event like getting a university degree, travelling abroad or having a good job. It can also be small events in life such as the first day going to school, the first time riding bicycle or something like that. To me, the most memorable experience that I have was the time I spent with my father during my childhood. I have two elder brothers, one elder sister and one younger sister. My younger sister is only 2 years old younger than me and apparently, we spent most of the time playing together throughout our childhood. My father usually took us to the park by the river ever y weekend. There we played tig, hide-and-seek, merry-go-round; shared one piece of baked banana, and so on. They were just small things, but these small things made us remember all these moments forever. We felt happy every single moment we shared with our father. Read more: Essays About Life Experiences My father passed away on the Buddhist holiday (the 15th of the 7th month of the lunar calendar) last year due to poor health situation at the old age. We told each other not to cry so that he could leave this world peacefully. Finally, I could not stand it and left my brotherââ¬â¢s house where my father was lying for a small park near my house. The merry-go-round there reminded me of all the good things he had devoted to us. I could not stop crying then. When my little daughter asks me to bring her to the park or do her some favor, I sometimes scold her because I am tired after being swamped up with the daily jobs and activities. Thinking of my father, I often say sorry to her after that and think if I can do just half of the things my father did for me, I am already a good mother. The most important thing I can learn from my father is to love my family, and to show the love to the beloved ones by simple actions in daily life. So, my friends, if you love someone, just say you love them and try your best to bring good things to your beloved ones whenever you can. Their happiness is your happiness!
Reformation Essay
The Reformation is a broad term used to describe the period of time beginning around 1500 A. D. extending through the mid-seventeenth century, with roots dating back to around the fourteenth century. Society was in something of an upheaval at the time and the church was faced persistent heresy. A wave that would become known as the Protestant Reformation started in Germany in the early 1500ââ¬â¢s and moved throughout the German speaking countries to Scandinavia to the French and finally to England and Scotland. Differing from the Renaissance, the Reformation made an impact in most every Europeanââ¬â¢s life and forced people to make the decision between the old way and the new. In the early stages of the Reformation there was a man, the pioneer of that Protestant Reformation that swept over Europe, a man who ventured into a new arena of thought in relation to how the Church, his name was Martin Luther. 1] The following writing will be a short biographical work of Martin Luther showing some of the events of his life and how through them, he changed the Church as well as contributed to the progress of the Reformation concluding with a look at his life in a way to show more of who Luther was as opposed to what he did. Martin Luther was born in Eisleben Germany on November 10, 1493 before moving to Mansfield in 1484 where he attended school before moving on to Magdeburg with the Brethren of the Common Life. From there he entered the University of Erfurt in 1501 where he was introduced to nominalist philosophy which taught the inability of natural reason to establish articles of faith. It was here that he also furthered his linguistic skills in the classical tongues, and graduated with his B. A. in 1502 and his M. A. in 1505. The winds of the Reformation had already begun to whirl as Luther was growing up. He had been studying law, before being caught up in the religious revival that had been heading across Western Europe. 2] That July he was knocked to the ground by lightning and the combination of those events, the death of a friend and issues inside himself he entered the chapter house of the Hermits of St. Augustine[3] in Erfurt monastery of the Augustinian Eremites. At this time he was given his very first Bible, which he studied relentlessly, studying carefully Romans and Galatians. He was also deeply into the works of Augustine as well as William of Occam and carried with himself the reputation of being a man of singular piety, devotion and monastic zeal. [4] To the objection of his father he took the vows in September 1506, was elected to study for the priesthood, and was made a deacon in February of 1507 and ordained a priest on April 4 of that same year. His father attended his first Mass where he rebuked Martin for disobeying his parents. [5] At the monastery, Luther practiced ascetic excesses to try to achieve some sense of inner peace. Johann von Staupitz helped him away from his life of standing fearfully in front of a Deity to responding in joy to the loving forgiveness of God through Jesus Christ. In 1510 he went on a business trip to Rome to the Vatican where he was shaken and disturbed by the commercial, showy splendor of the Vatica n. In 1512, Luther began lecturing as a doctorate of theology at Wittenberg, a position he would hold for the rest of his life. For the following two years he lectured heavily on the Psalms before shifting to Romans, Galatians, Hebrews and Titus in 1516. It was after these studies that Luther became convinced that salvation is a new relationship with God, and that it was not a merit-based system but rather it came through placing trust in the promises of God. Humans would still sin, but would live life as a forgiven sinner as a result of their relationship with Jesus Christ. It was also through these studies that Luther had his Gospel epiphany in 1516 while reading in Galatians 3 that ââ¬Å"the just shall live by faith. â⬠At this time that Luther was released from his haunting sense of guilt and crossed over into the freedom that came from relying on Godââ¬â¢s grace. During this time he was growing, discovering new convictions, and while he had not written them into an officially theology he did have the principles that would be instrumental in and would define the Reformation; man is justified by faith alone, every believer has direct access to God and the Bible is the sole source of authority for faith and life. In 1517 Luther decided he needed to put these ideas into action. It was in that year that he came across a Dominican, Johann Tetzel, selling indulgences to Lutherââ¬â¢s parishioners. Going against Tetzelââ¬â¢s methods, bad theology and the fact that the outflow of cash was for a new St. Peterââ¬â¢s for Leo X, Luther preached against buying pardons and for relying on Godââ¬â¢s grace for salvation. He had grown tired of this theology that was lacking Scriptural truth about it. On October 31, 1517, the day for which many remember Luther, he tacked Ninety-five Theses to the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg intending to have the questions bring about academic discussion, not a document written to insight a revolt against the pope of the Church of Rome. The Theses were translated and circulated bringing about attacks from Tetzel and the formidable Eck, labeling him a heretic. Luther was ordered by Leo X to appear at Rome in 1518 though it Frederck ââ¬Å"the Wiseâ⬠changed the hearing to Augsburg and it was through Frederickââ¬â¢s protection that Luther was able to survive. At the time of the hearing, Leo was drafting a papal bull describing indulgences in the exact fashion that Luther had questioned. In 1519 Lutherââ¬â¢s debate went publicly with Eck and he admitted that he rejected other authority of popes and councils when they were not congruent to the Scriptures. To combat the view that he was going against everything the church stood for, he published three works to clarify his views; ââ¬Å"An Address to Christian Nobility of the German Nation,â⬠ââ¬Å"The Babylonian Captivity of the Churchâ⬠and the ââ¬Å"Liberty of a Christian Man. On Dec. 10, 1520, he was presented with a papal bull threatening to excommunicate him. He publicly burned the document along with a copy of the canon law, an open defiance of the popeââ¬â¢s authority in refusal to renounce any of his viewpoints Due to factors beyond just Lutherââ¬â¢s actions, the Wittenberg civil authorities looked on approvingly as their country was in a rebellious mood. Again h e was summoned to appear before the pope, again refusing to budge from his position. A group of German churchmen, princes and nobles approached him one day ordering him to recant to which he replied, ââ¬Å"Unless I am refuted and convicted by testimonies of Scripture or by clear arguments, my conscience is bound in the word of God: I cannot and will not recant anything. I cannot do otherwise. Here I stand. God help me, Amen. â⬠It was Frederick that again came to the rescue of Luther, saving him from almost certain martyrdom yet again, abducting him on his journey from Worms and holding him at the Wartburg Castle for ten months. Some consider Lutherââ¬â¢s time spent there in the castle his most valuable as, among other things, he translated the Greek Bible to German. Upon his return to Wittenberg in March of 1522 he set about organizing the reformation that had nearly crumbled under the enthusiastic, but unskilled leadership of such people as Carlstadt and Zwilling in Wittenberg. They had gotten a crowd together that started rampages, wrecking statuary and artwork, actions Luther quickly denounced and went about producing forms for instruction, worship and church government. The Peasantââ¬â¢s War came about in 1524, but Luther continued undeterred, holding to the position of upholding authority, calling for social justice and urging the consideration for the economic welfare of the lower class. Lutherââ¬â¢s language used in urging the princes to put down the revolt was intemperate and he ended up alienating some of the lower class. [6] During his time in the castle, Luther set out writing a childrenââ¬â¢s catechism as well as a catechism for the common people. It was also during this time that he composed what some consider the battle hymn for the reformation ââ¬Å"Almighty Fortress Is Our God. He went on teaching in his position, beginning to teach that priests could marry and soon met and married a former nun named Katharina von Bora who had followed him along with eight other nuns in fleeing from their convent in 1523 to take refuge in Wittenberg. [7] Together they produced six children of their own and opened their home to countless others as well as boarding students and other guests. [8] Luther continued to write, preach and teach and in 1530 he approved the Augsburg Confession and the Augsburg Apology as written by Philip Melanchthon. In 1573 Luther restated his doctrines in the Schmalkald Articles and spent his remaining years spent in inactive and productive service, such as writing ââ¬Å"On Bondage of Will. â⬠Luther died in his home town of Eisleben after mediating a meeting between two princes and experiences mild chest pains[9] in 1546. [10] The life of Martin Luther is something that one could marvel at, but there is more to this manââ¬â¢s story than a whole lot of scholarly achievements and raising questions that ended up causing Christianity to divide. He was a man of great passion and was extremely focused on God, realizing that it was about God and not about himself. When Christ drove the people out of the church saying they made it a den of theives he is angry because he knows that things are not what they should be, and sees what they could become, Martin Luther is another man with the same sort of view. He saw things the way that they could be. This anger was not exclusive to just Luther and Christ, it happens within many men and comes from different places, but what is common is that they are angry at the denialââ¬ânot to themselves alone, but to their fellowmen as wellââ¬âof all they have seen of head in their solitude that has been proven in their own personal life. Luther, slated by some as the last angry man of the Reformation, was once quoted saying, ââ¬Å"I never work better, than when I am inspired of anger when I am angry, I can write, pray and preach well, for then my whole temperament is quickened, my understanding sharpened and my mundane vexations and temptations depart. â⬠His life was tumultuous and deep melancholy assaulted him, leaving him weak and desperately ill. Upon tasting the grace of God he was driven with great compassion to preach the unsearchable riches of Christ and publish the Word of God in the native tongue of his countrymen. His passion and resolute faith was so great that it was said that upon hearing him pray people would exclaim: ââ¬Å"How great a spirit, how great a faith, was in his very words! â⬠As a monk he vowed to crucify the flesh through fasting, mortifications, and watchings struggling against deceitful thoughts and the evil inclinations of his heart. Nothing was too great a sacrifice if it would enable him to become a saint of acquired heaven. He was sold out on his quest for attaining holiness. He even claimed himself to be a pious monk stating that, ââ¬Å"If a monk could obtain heaven by his good works, I should, certainly those who have known me can testify. â⬠As he was carrying out this torture on himself he was confronted by John Staupitz, who asked him why he tormented himself the way that he did telling the young Martin, to ââ¬Å"look at the wounds of Christ, to the blood that he has shed for you. â⬠Luther was so wrapped up in literally beating himself up over his sins, he forgot a key element. Staupitz went on to tell him, ââ¬Å"Instead of torturing yourself on account of your sins, throw you self in the Redeemerââ¬â¢s arms. Trust in Himââ¬âin the righteousness of His lifeââ¬âin the atonement of His death. â⬠Not long after his conversations with Staupitz, Luther was done being an imitator, keeping to the rules of the religious order, but rather he was a new creation entirely, walking in the full assurance of faith confident that the God that began the good work in him, would perfect His work. For Luther Christ was no longer an option, Christ was the option, or as he said in his Commentary on Galatians, ââ¬Å"Christ is no lawgiver. He is the Lifegiver. â⬠[11] For Luther it was about knowing God, not having a knowledge of God, he was a man full of passion for his Savior, completely sold out on his Masterââ¬â¢s plan. It was so much so that he thanked God that he knew enough to believe that God knew more than he did and was able to rest in knowing that that would never change. Knowing that God was greater and surrendering to that knowledge was an undercurrent to Lutherââ¬â¢s life, he clung to the word of God for his confidence and promises, not to the tradition of men.
