A Midsummer Nights Dream Essay Love is one of the most immense feelings a human can experience. Love is a deep tender feeling of affection and attachment and devotion to another person. Countless people experience love, both, as non-romantic with their families and romantic love with a special person who comes into their life. When people are on the expedition for love, people may become blindsided by infatuation or what is commonly referred to as lust. Infatuation is being completely carried away by a foolish or shallow affection. Individuals can accept infatuation instead of love, or they cannot tell the difference between the two. One of the many themes in A Midsummer Night’s Dream is love vs. infatuation. Love is stronger, no matter what the circumstance may be. The play A Midsummer Night’s Dream investigates and portrays the intricate relationships among three couples. The relationships become jumbled up and turn into a love triangle. The first couple introduced in A Midsummer Night’s Dream is Lysander and Hermia. Lysander and Hermia truly symbolize the wholesome meaning of romantic love. Their love is exceedingly strong, which makes the lovers inseparable. The play does a wonderful job of showing the concrete stages of their relationship. One example is why Hermia’s love is strong, is that she listens to her father, Egeus, but then makes her own decision, based on her own feelings and not those of her family or society, to commit to Lysander. In the play, Hermia’s father wants her to marry Demetrius and not Lysander. Hermia also went against Theseus, the Duke of Athens, and defied the ancient law of Athens, by choosing to continue her bond with Lysander even though it might mean her death or lifelong chastity. Love is stronger than infatuation, because it means two people making a long term commitment to each other, which does not happen in infatuation. An example of this is when Hermia and Lysander run away together to the forest where they do not know what awaits them. They are putting their trust and faith into each other: †¦If thou lovest me then Steal forth thy father’s house tomorrow night. And in the woods a league without the town- Where I did meet thee once with Helena To do observance to a morn of May- There will I stay for thee. (1.1.163-168) Love is also stronger than infatuation, because it means respecting a person, whereas infatuation is only pleasing yourself. Lysander showed his love and respect of Hermia by not sleeping near her at the river bank, at the edge of the forest even though he wanted to. While love can also have some elements of infatuation such as physical attraction, love is a deeper emotion where a person cares about the reputation of their loved one, and would not harm it. However, with infatuation, a person only wants instant pleasure and does not care about the long term harm it may cause. While love is a very strong bond, there can be cracks in love’s foundation, which may temporarily cause a breach. We see this when Lysander receives the magic potion from Puck, and becomes temporarily infatuated with Helena, and carried away by an unreasonable desire for another woman other than the one he truly loves, if he were not under the spell of infatuation. When the infatuation is lifted, Lysander understands his foolishness, and immediately goes back to Hermia. At the end of the play, Egeus and Theseus realize that Lysander and Hermia are truly in love, strongly committed to each other, and not just infatuated, and give their blessings for the marriage. The second couple is Helena and Demetrius. Demetrius had Egeus’ blessing for Hermia’s hand in marriage, but Hermia rejected Demetrius because of her love for Lysander. As can be seen in Demetrius actions, infatuation can often be just one sided, where the stronger bond of love must be two sided. While Demetrius believed he loved Hermia, he was willing to stalk her in the forest, and try to take her away from Lysander, even though she did not return Demetrius’ love. This is only infatuation on Demetrius’ part, and not a mature love. Demetrius is only concerned about getting what he wants, and pleasing himself, and does not take into account the feelings, hopes or desires of Hermia. Helena, who was Hermia’s best friend, betrays her friend because of Helena’s one-sided and obsessive infatuation for Demetrius. Infatuation can make a person do terrible things both to themselves and to their friends. An example of this is when Hermia asks Helena not to tell of Hermia’s plan to escape to the forest with Lysander, but Helena goes against her longtime friend simply so she can look better in the eyes of Demetrius: I will go tell him of fair Hermias flight: Then to the wood will he to-morrow night Pursue her; and for this intelligence If I have thanks, it is a dear expense: But herein mean I to enrich my pain, To have his sight thither and back again. (1.1.143-152) Even though Demetrius makes cruel insults to Helena, she does not listen to him, and misguidedly continues to have an unreasonable belief that Demetrius will come to love her, and follows him into the forest. This feeling that Helena has is not true faithful love, but an obsessive infatuation which causes her to lie and betray her lifelong friend and herself, all over a man who is a womanizer and has no feelings for Helena. In Helena’s case she only sees Demetrius as what she wants him to be like, and not his real self. Therefore, in that sense, infatuation can be stronger than love because it can make a person not see the reality about another, but only what that person wants to see. It can temporarily destroy common sense. By a trick, and not Demetrius’ own true feelings, a potion causes him to love Helena, and they eventually marry. However, this is not true love because there is no selflessness by either, and no solid partnership, their feelings are all due to sorcerery. Infatuation is usually never very long lasting, and we know that if the love potion does finally wear off it is doubtful that Helena and Demetrius will continue to be happy with each other. However, on the other hand infatuation can lead to love over time, as each person really gets to know the other and accept each other for the person they really are, flaws and all. For Helena and Demetrius, the long term future of their relationship is left to the reader’s imagination, and is never answered. The last couple is Titania, the fairy queen, and Bottom. Titania is already married to Oberon, the king of the fairies. Oberon wants Titania’s ward, who is a changeling Indian boy, and Titania does not want to give the boy to Oberon. Oberon uses his assistant to apply a magic flower juice to Titania as both a joke and punishment for her failure to do what Oberon wants. This causes Titania to fall in love with the first thing she sees, which is Bottom, a craftsman, who has been changed into an ass by a mischievous fairy named Puck. Titania shows unrestrained passion for Bottom, and therefore he goes with her to the fairy land without even knowing who she is. This is infatuation because it causes both Titania and Bottom to be carried away by intense emotion, and do something they would not normally do. This illustrates that in the short term, infatuation seems to be stronger than love, because a person does things in the heat of the moment to gratify their own pleasure without consideration to the long term effects, to either themselves or to others. However, when the spell of infatuation wears off, the intense feelings of what a person thought was love is totally gone, and feelings of embarrassment and regret usually take their place. Therefore, infatuation is not really stronger than love. We see this illustrated when Oberon tells Titania she is under the spell of the love-in-idleness flower. Titania realizes the love is phony and accepts to Oberon’s offer that if she gives up the Indian boy, Oberon will liberate the magic flowers enchantment: When I had at my pleasure taunted her And she in mild terms beggd my patience, I then did ask of her her changeling child; Which straight she gave me, and her fairy sent To bear him to my bower in fairy land. And now I have the boy, I will undo (4.1.55-60) Also as to the relationship between Oberon and Titania, it is questionable that Oberon really loves Titania. Oberon was willing to harm her and their relationship, by using her to get a possession that he wanted. Love is a strong faith in your partner, and a willingness to make sacrifices for the good of the relationship. Oberon did not have faith in Titania, and felt justified in imposing his own will over hers. However, love is not always smooth, and it means accepting a person for their flaws. Both Oberon and Titania are aware of the flaws of each other, but stay together as a couple, showing that love is a stronger emotion than infatuation. Love, and not infatuation, is the strongest emotion in A Midsummer Night’s Dream because it enriches several of the couple’s lives and has the potential to make them happy on a long term basis. Love is a connection to another person that is made up of friendship and respect and is nourishing to both. This is shown by Hermia and Lysander’s relationship. However, love must be worked at, and it is a promise that can be broken. We see that even with a strong love, Lysander could fall under the spell of infatuation and temporarily turn away from Hermia, or that Oberon could play a mean trick on Titania. While infatuation is not bad, it is usually not enduring like love. It is based on idealizing someone, rather than seeing the real person, flaws and all. In Titania’s case, under the spell of infatuation she was blind to reality, and she was passionate for Bottom, even though he looked like a donkey. Infatuation makes one physically happy but not emotionally happy; therefore it is a lesser emotion than love. We see with all the couples that they have fun with their sexuality and passion, when they are under the spell of infatuation, but except for Helena and Demetrius, they all finally wake from it, and see that it was only shallow and temporary and made them act foolishly. Therefore, while infatuation is very strong and can make a sensible person put aside their common sense, infatuation will lose its grip on a person given time. Love on the other hand, has the potential to last forever if it is worked at, and simply makes a couple both emotionally and physical happy.

Good Times Originally aired on CBS in 1974 as a spinoff of the sitcom Maude, Good Times was a Black situation comedy based on the everyday lives of a Black Chicago family during the height of the civil rights movement (Deane, 2004). The cast starred Esther Rolles as the mother Florida Evans who first appeared as the maid in the television show Maude, John Amos as the father James Evans who starred in the hit miniseries Roots, comedian Jimmie Walker who played the oldest son James Evans Jr. (JJ), Ja'net DuBois as neighbor and friend of the Evans family Willona Woods, Ralph Carter who played the youngest son Michael Evans, and Anderson Bern Nadette Stanis as daughter Thelma Evans (Deane, 2004). Good Times took place in the assimilated hybrid minstrelsy genre of Black sitcoms which means that it often had offensive stereotypical aspects present such as mammy and sambo characters, but these characteristics took place in a traditional white sitcom setting and often had references to the Black civil rights movement that was taking place at the time. Originally created to show African Americans in a different more positive light, it gained popularity with Black and White audiences quickly and rated number seventeen for the 1973-1974 seasons (Ingram, 2004). As the show proceeded however, it began to drift away from its original purpose as the character JJ's popularity began to grow. Often criticized for his similarities to buffoonish minstrel characters in early television history, JJ was seen as doing a disservice to the show causing Esther Rolles and John Amos to leave. Attempting to continue the show and regain ratings, the show's producers centered episodes around the hijinks of JJ, but alas the show's ratings continued to fall and the show was cancelled. This brings us to the question at hand. Was Good Times a show that portrayed Blacks in a positive manner to the American public, or was it more of the nail in the coffin to the positive identity of Black America? Positive Aspects Good Times was an interesting 1970's television comedy series that explored the life of a poor black family. This family was simply trying to get by and have a good life in the projects of Chicago. The Evans family was a family that faced real problems on the show and encountered many different situations which they had to overcome. When the show was debuted on February 1, 1974, the series starred John Amos and Esther Rolle as James and Maude (the parents) (Ingram).

Central access, easy back up, central distribution of information, easy record keeping, as well as easy customer trait identification, are just a few of the benefits offered by an information system. Central access means all organization members have one point to access all organizationally public information and increases efficiency. Having information in a variety of locations can be cumbersome and cause information to be overlooked. With easy back up, the chances of lost data are decreased and organizational staff will tend to back up more regularly as the system is easy to navigate. To receive the greatest benefit overall, it is important to understand that it is an adaptable tool that should progress as your business progresses. Background of the Study A Clinic in Dr. Arcadio Santos National High School provides health care for the students thru regular physical and nutritional assessment, operational instructions and by giving emphasis on the ideals of a safe, healthy and drug free environment. Dr. Arcadio Santos National High School was conceived merely todecongest the big enrollment of then Paraà ±aque Municipal High School that was in 1991. This was in under the supervision of Mrs. Rosa V. Sioson, the principal of PMHS. The school was named then PMHS Annex San Martin de Porres. It has a total number of 804 freshmen and 422 sophomore enrollees with 38 teachers. A two-storey building with 16 rooms situated along Km. 15 East Service Road, South Super Highway, San Martin de Porres, Paraà ±aque City under the stewardship of Mr. Urbano E. Agustin as Officer-in-charge, was the only building in use that time. Steady growth of enrollment occurred. 1993, because Dr. Filemon S. Salas, then Schools Division Superintendent of Pasay City Division, advocated and recommended the establishments of more autonimous municipal high school in Paraà ±aque, school independence is worked out. Through the collaborative effort of the school administration, the Parents Teachers Association, the municipal officials and the community itself, Audience and hearings were made. Resolution was passed. And with the authorship of Atty. Manuel de Guia, municipal councilor an chairperson of committee of Education, a Municipal Ordinance No. 93-10 Series of 1993 was approved making PMHS-Annex-San Martin de Porres an independent secondary school. September 1 also became the basis of the celebration of the school’s foundation day. School Year 1994-1995 sprouted another school in the name of DASHS Masville Annex. Mrs. Virginia B. Vecino was designated officer-in-charge with 167 teachers and almost 300 students. Due to an unavoidable circumstances however, it was closed in the same year. In 1995, another four-storey building with 24 rooms was constructed to meet the increasing classroom needs of the stud entry under the local fund chaired by then Mayor Olivarez. A year after, a two-storey building was erected through the country wide Development Fund of Cong. Roilo Golez. The building is now utilized as the school library in the second floor and three classrooms for THE-I.A. in the ground floor. In 1996, DASHS Annex was reopened. This time it found its haven at Don Galo in juxtaposition with the Don Galo Elementary School. Mrs. Concepcion Bernaldez, the assistant school principal, was designated officer-in-charge. It had 330 students; First and Second year level with 16 teachers. In 1997, DASHS annex found its way back again to Masville with a total population of 994. This was upon the completion of a four-storey building with 16 rooms sponsored by Mayor Joey P. Marquez. In 1998, a complete secondary annex came to existence. Now it has a total population of 1443 and 34 teachers administering the needs of the student body under the supervision of Dr. Teodulo N. Timtiman, II as Officer-in-charge. Statement of the Problem General Problem The general problem of the study is the manual operations in generating treatment report and monitoring the patient’s ailments. Specific Problem How to easily manage the school clinic treatment record? Using manual system, the assigned clinic staff is hard for them to manage, organize and generate all reports in the clinic especially in the Treatment Report. How could they monitor the total number of ailments and how do they generate a report every month? All information of ailments collected will be store in the log book and then they just make a report before the end of the month. How could they give an update to the DEPED (Department of education) division of Paraà ±aque for the medical supplies needed by the clinic? The Treatment Report will be submitted to the head office to review all the types of ailments and to produce a needs of the clinic especially the medicines. Objectives of the Study General Objectives The general objectives of the study are to design and develop software that will enhance the existing Treatment Report System for a better one. Specific Objectives They can easily manage their record process using the computerized treatment report with monitoring patient’s ailments. Managing the records daily would be easier with the help of the proposed system without having difficulties in which the nurse and the dentist can supervise all the needs of medications for each patient. The proposed system will automatically count the total number of ailments every week. Instead of Monthly Report, the nurse and the dentist will generate the report weekly by the use of the proposed system. They can easily update the DEPED (Division of Paranaque) regarding the medical supplies of the school clinic. By the use of a proposed system, they can send request to the main office for the medical supply weekly. Scope and the Delimitation Scope The scope of the study can record the students and school personnel information who admitted inside the school clinic. It can automatically optimize in managing all the records together with the medication needs of the patients. The information including the name, age, grade/year level, address, contact number and etc., can modify and update the data by using control selection of the proposed system. The study is only for Dr. Arcadio Santos National High School (clinic). It has a security that the School Nurse, School Dentist, students or other school personnel who can only access the system. Also, using their own account in the propoed system the Nurse and the Dentist can generate the reports and can update the information stored in the database. Delimitation The proposed system has an account security for the users so that all unauthorized person outside the school premises are not allowed to use. Also, the students and principal are cannot generate the Treatment Reports and the proposed system does not support for the online services. Significance of the study The proposed Computerized Treatment Report with Monitoring Patient’s ailment system has the ability to perform with different features such as fast, accurate and user-friendly. For this reason, the proposed system benefits not just its primary user but also the proponents, future researchers, and the country’s I.T industry. For the Users The prime beneficiary of the proposed system is the User. This system will help them easily to process their transactions. Because of this is a friendly user, the problem can be easily solve and the transactions done well. Also the transaction will be enhanced from manual to computerized one. For the Proponents The proposed system also benefits the proponent’s method of thinking. While creating the system, each proponent will enhance his knowledge and express his thoughts or ideas in order to create and implement a new design and the system performance as well. The proposed system will also help them to analyze the flow of transactions and trace every problems encountered. For the Future Researchers This proposed system will help the future researchers because it will serve as their reference. It will serve as their basis in analyzing the current status of Monitoring System. Because of this, other proponents will be able to improve the said system as they create a new design. For the IT Industry The IT Industry will benefit this study because they create programmers that can help them to improve and develop more in terms of enhancing the latest computerized systems. Conceptual Framework Figure 1.0 shows the existing system for generating a Treatment Report every month. First, the Medical staff will ask question to the patient which includes Name, Address and Contact Number together with the ailments. All the information gathered are manually Record in the Log Book that serves as a database. After recording all information, the medical staff will now check if there is an available first aid medication for the particular ailment. If no, the patient will be transfer to the other clinics and the medical staff will now record the medical needs inside the school clinic. After a month, the Medical staff will now count all the total number of ailments and generate a Treatment Report by using a bar chart. It is conflict for the staff to generate a report because of too many record stored in Log book. The report will be submitted to the main office of the Department of Education (DEPED) Division of Paraà ±aque and after reviewing the chart, it is the time to send a supply of medicines into the school. Conceptual Framework Figure 1.1 shows the Computerized System for generating a Treatment Report every week instead of monthly report. First, the Medical staff will ask question to the patient which includes Name, Address and Contact Number together with the ailments. All the information gathered will type in the proposed system with SQL database. After recording all information, the medical staff will now search to the database for the available medicines. Every week, the Medical Staff generate the Treatment Report by using the proposed system. It is easy for them to accomplish the report because it is automatically tally all the ailments records counted saved on the database. Database – a comprehensive collection of related data organized for convenient access, generally in a computer. Design – to prepare the preliminary sketch or the plans for (a work to be executed) especially to plan the form and structure . Input – data to be entered into a computer for processing, the process of introducing data into the internal storage ofa computer. Medication – the use or application of medicine,a medicinal substance. Monitoring –Supervising activities in progress to ensure they are on-course and on-schedule in meeting the objectives and performance targets. Output – information in a form suitable for transmission from internal to external units of a computer, or to an outside medium. Process – a systematic series of actions directed to some end. a continuous action, operation, or series of changes taking placein a definite manner: Programmer – a person who writes computer software. Programming – is the comprehensive process that leads from an original formulation of a computing problem to executable programs. It involves activities such as analysis, understanding, and generically solving such problems resulting in an algorithm. Report – is any informational work (usually of writing, speech , television, or film) made with the specific intention in relaying information or recounting certain events in a widely presentable form. School personnel –a body of persons usually employed in a school. Software – is a collection of computer programs and related data that provides the instructions for telling a computer what to do and how to do it. SQL – Structured Query Language is a standard computer language for relational database management and data manipulation. is used to query, insert, update and modify data. System Design – is the process of defining the architecture, components, modules, interfaces and data for a system to satisfy specified requirements. Transaction – information processing that is divided into individual, indivisible operations, a unit of work performed within a database management system Treatment – The process or manner of treating someone or something. C H A P T E R II Review of Related Studies and Literature This Chapter consists of review related literature and a study that includes the local and foreign study to make relevance our study. It also discusses the different references and text that are relevant to the studies. Related Literature the researchers cited some of the related literature made by different researchers which are quite similar to the present study. The area consists of the user in clinic which is doctor and clinic assistant. Basically there are no such systems in the clinic. The system use before has caused a lot of problems to the user. Due to that, using manual system seems to be the only solutions in managing the daily works. The system will help out the user in the clinic in managing the work. 2.
